Evaluation of an Energy Separation Device for the Efficiency Improvement of a Planar Solid Oxide Fuel Cell System with an External Reformer

Due to the high operating temperature of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), system efficiency depends on efficient thermal integration and effective construction configuration. In this study, nine configurations design were investigated evaluate possible improvement with energy separation devices. The models developed under Matlab/Simulink® platform Thermolib® module. reference layout simulation included an SOFC stack, a compressor, external reformer burner, three-way valve, heat exchanger, water pump. From case, eight cases extended layouts for capability utilization catalytic converter, hybridization, device. Since device was beneficial via boost gas temperature, electric efficiency, combined power (CHP) improved turbo generator.
